GERMANY, CANNED TUNA IMPORTS INCREASED

Demand for preserved food reserves in Germany is increasing due to concerns of a Covid outbreak - the second 19, including canned tuna products.

In 2020, the boom in demand for canned tuna in Germany caused the country to increase its imports of products from outside. Specifically, Germany imported 79,483 tons of canned tuna in the first 9 months of 2020, an increase of 33% over the same period in 2019. This import volume reached the highest level in the past 5 years. The average price of canned tuna imports into this country is at the lowest level in the past 3 years, reaching 3,909 euros/ton.

According to Eurostat's statistics, Vietnam is currently the 5th largest supplier to the German market for canned tuna, accounting for 5% of the country's total canned tuna imports in the first 9 months of this year. Exports of canned tuna from Vietnam to Germany in 2020 have recovered, with an increase of 64% over the same period in 2019. This year, the average price of canned tuna exports to Germany tends to be lower than that of the same period in 2019. the same period, at 2,927 euros / tonne, down 2%. This is the lowest import price among German import sources. Vietnam is exporting mainly to Germany with products of tuna sauce, tuna in sauce with peas and onions ... to this market.
